The office and staff at the Wakefield Headquarters 

The National Executive Committee maintains an office in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, to service the needs of the 111 Branches and the 76,000 members of the Association. In total seven members of staff are employed; four full-time and three on a part-time basis.

The main functions of the Head Office are; 

 

  •  Servicing the NEC and its committees. This involves arranging the venues and accommodation, putting together the agenda, attending the meetings to take minutes, writing up the minutes and circulating them, together with any other relevant papers, to members of the NEC/Committees, before the next meeting;
  • Advice to members about pension queries;
  • Representation of NARPO and members’ interests to influential third parties, eg the Police Federation, the Public Services Pensioners’ Council, charitable bodies concerned with problems of ageing;
  • Development of membership services, eg Insurance at a beneficial rate;
  • Maintaining the membership database;
  • Production of a quarterly magazine for members. This includes sourcing articles, arranging advertising, liaison with the printers. Post distribution activities include posting out merchandise as requested, dealing with queries about addresses etc and about the content of articles;
  • Sourcing, advertising and selling an annual diary to members;
  • Organising an Annual Conference for members. The Annual Report is prepared for this conference;
  • Offering an administrative service to branches, eg for the distribution of information and newsletters to their members;
  • Managing and accounting for all sources of income and expenditure, conformity with legislation, eg VAT and PAYE.
